Laura Munich + Métisse
Co-lead by vocalist Laura Munich and pianist Anil Veeraraj, Métisse blends jazz, funk, world and pop elements to create a soulful and sophisticated musical fusion. From fiery sambas and lilting bossas to blistering swing and earthy funk, solid grooves lay the foundation for sensual, vivid musical storytelling. The Philadelphia Inquirer praised Munich’s “mix of soulful, sultry jazz” and called her “a versatile singer who knows the mechanics of music”. Métisse’s eclectic repertoire draws on sources as diverse as Chick Corea, Stevie Wonder and Ivan Lins and explores the lyrical traditions of Latin America, Brazil, France and Italy. Bassist Arthur Paley and drummer Ben Cuyler round out the group.
